CIO Jobs description

Those in CIO jobs lead and manage organization-wide information technology services and operations. Responsible for the establishment and implementation of best practices in the area of IT security and network security programs, the CIO is also involved in strategic planning of IT operations and technical upgrading of organizational technical resources. As CIO positions are C-level positions, CIOs report directly to the presidents or CEOs of their organizations or to chief technical officers in larger organizations.
Any applicant for a CIO job must have a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline — preferably in computer science or information technology — and five-plus years of experience in project management, IT security management, and network/server maintenance. Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems, management information systems, and Internet telephone systems may prove advantageous. Several years of experience with C, C++, Java, ASP.NET, or SQL or in an anti-virus, anti-spyware, or anti-spam atmosphere may be helpful too.
