Job Announcement: February 9, 2018Position Title: Executive DirectorReports To: Council Board of DirectorsTerms: Full time, available immediatelyAbout the Council:The California Efficiency Demand Management Council (the Council) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation representing the energy efficiency and demand management industries. The Council’s mission is to support energy-efficiency and demand-response policies and programs for all Californians to create sustainable jobs, long-term economic vitality, stable and reasonably priced energy systems, and environmental improvement. The Council (formerly the California Energy Efficiency Industry Council) was formed in July of 2009 and currently has over 70 companies as members. For more information, visit our website, the Position:The Council has an immediate opening for a new Executive Director to provide strong leadership and oversee a staff of three full-time employees, and external consultants when needed. We are interested in an individual who can help take the Council into the next phase of its evolution. Candidates should have relevant policy experience and familiarity with California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) proceedings and California Energy Commission (CEC) activities. Exposure to legislative processes in California is a plus.The Executive Director is the voice and outward face of the organization representing the CEDMC in forums, events, and oversight of all communications with members and stakeholders. The Executive Director is responsible for executing the vision and mission of the organization and delivering on the strategic plan goals with four primary functional aspects to the role:Leadership: Building upon the Council’s established voice as an energy policy thought leader through collaboration with an extensive network of members companies, utility partners, foundation funders, and industry stakeholders.Policy & Advocacy: Representing the Council and support the policy team’s work in key forums including proceedings at the CPUC, CEC, California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and other key agencies and forums, such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and industry conferences.Financial Stability: Ensuring the financial health of the organization by working to meet or exceed member expectations through valued member services, recruiting new members, delivering on grants and partnerships, and spearheading new revenue opportunities.Operations Management: Overseeing the Council operations including but not limited to developing and managing budgets, managing and mentoring staff, consultants, and resources, and working with the Board and committees to deliver on organizational goals.Requirements and Core CompetenciesMinimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, public policy, engineering, economics, natural resources, or other relevant area.Minimum of 10 years of experience in a business, agency, public policy and\/or non-profit management.Passion and vision for the clean energy economyDemonstrated understanding of demand-side management programs, addressing energy efficiency, demand response, and distributed energy resources.Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholdersSuperior organizational skills and self-motivation — experience working remotely is a plus.Excellent writing and communication skills.Demonstrated leadership, management, and mentoring experienceCollaborative approach to working with Board and staffAbility to travel within California to attend meetings, events and conferences as required.Knowledge of energy policy, and specifically of the energy-efficiency or demand-response fields, is strongly preferred.Complete command of Microsoft office suite.Existing network of connections and relationships in California is a plusLocation and CompensationThe Council team works remotely, however, the ideal candidate will be located in the Bay Area or Sacramento area. Compensation is competitive for a non-profit Executive Director position.
