The individual in this position will serve a crucial role in the Office of the President and will be a key partner to the Chief of Staff in ensuring positive partnerships between the Office of the President and the campus community. The person in this position will represent and advance the prioritized interests and objectives of the Chief of Staff and President and, by extension, the University. This individual will manage various administrative matters, oversees a portfolio of special projects aligned with the institution’s priorities, and will assist the Chief of Staff in stewarding productive internal relations.
Responsibilities:
Internal Relations and Support
Represents the Office of the President to internal constituents and supports productive collaboration, including through frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and alumni
Cultivates a positive and collaborative partnership with shared governance bodies
Partners with the Office of the Provost on Academic Affairs initiatives that overlap with presidential priorities
Serves in a key advisory role to the Chief of Staff and President regarding internal affairs
Attends and/or leads key meetings as a representative of the Office of the President and ensures assignment of follow up actions
Collaborates with the communications team and the Office of the Provost on internal presidential communications
Strategic Insight
Provides strategic insight to the Chief of Staff and President regarding campus relations
Provides guidance on the Chief of Staff and President’s allocation of time to campus issues
Special Projects
Manages special projects and other initiatives that cross organizational lines, as assigned by the Chief of Staff or President
Office Supervision and Support
Supervises the Director of Operations and External Engagement
Supervises the Director of the SEA Change Initiative as well as the Coordinator of the Women’s Leadership Initiative
Oversees effective and efficient operation of the Office of the President, as carried out by the Director of Operations and External Engagement and their direct reports
Provides guidance on key events planning (e.g., Campus Updates, BOR, President’s Lecture Series)
Supports the Chief of Staff in tracking and nudging key leadership projects
Other Essential Functions
Communicates the University’s position on various issues to internal stakeholders
Provides direct oversight and development of assigned staff
Provides analytical and substantive insight to the Chief of Staff and others
Meets regularly with shared governance groups to ensure alignment of effort and open communication
Works collaboratively with senior leadership, faculty, and staff to manage major projects and initiatives

Ensures effective engagement of the Chief of Staff and President with internal stakeholders

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package
including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
Salary range for this position is $75,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
This position reports to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President
Required Skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and extreme discretion in frequently working with highly sensitive, proprietary information
Highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills; including an acute emotional intelligence
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of institutional policies and procedures, and the regulatory environment under which the University operates
Ability to gather information, analyze and compile data, and utilize relevant information to compile useful summaries and reports
Ability to perform complex tasks while often having to prioritize multiple projects
Sound and strategic judgement necessary to make critical administrative and procedural decisions
Comprehensive knowledge of applicable policies, practices and procedures
Leadership skills, and the ability to oversee and guide complex, challenging tasks
Ability to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with a wide-ranging, group of individuals and entities
Ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work projects for self and others
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the success of University students

Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in a field related to the duties and responsibilities associated with the position, and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education setting; or any combination of experience and education that would provide the competencies necessary to successfully manage the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.
