Vice President of Philanthropy, Dignity Health Foundation

Position Summary:

Oversees a significant expansion of system-wide philanthropic support. This senior level position carries broad responsibilities for providing leadership in the areas of external fund development, program development, and foundation operations. The position will oversee the Dignity Health Foundation’s fundraising with community health and innovation as focus areas, grants administration, major gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate giving, donor relation, research, stewardship and events

Core Duties:

Directs the planning of system fundraising programs for the Dignity Health Foundation. Ensures development of system-wide strategic initiatives and raises funds to catalyze programs that are ultimately disseminated throughout all of Dignity Health

Communicates funding priorities to individuals, granting agencies, foundations, corporations, and organizations and develops relationships with key funding stakeholders to engage them in system-wide, comprehensive programs and remain informed on legal, tax, accounting, investment, and technology issues as they affect nonprofits.

Serves as the Chief of Staff to the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy to support development and implementation of major projects for the department, and in collaboration with the SVP, works with the executive leadership and senior administrators in the hospitals and foundations across the system to communicate the Foundation mission and develop programmatic priorities.

In partnership with the Senior Vice President of Philanthropy, expands and manages a board of directors of high profile industry and community leaders that assist the Dignity Health Foundation to generate funds, increase brand awareness, and build the reputation of Dignity Health.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required

Minimum of ten (10) years of successful professional experience in non-profit development and management, corporate governance and accountability, donor stewardship, grant writing, and fundraising with a significant track record of innovation and success in fundraising leadership and non-profit management roles.

Knowledge of philosophies, approaches, processes and practices for delivering healthcare services; ability to implement, design, assess and improve healthcare service models and ensure they align with organizational goals.

Knowledge of the principles and methodology of budget management and ability to utilize the tools, techniques and procedures needed to establish and monitor budgets.

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies

Knowledge of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.

Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Knowledge of organizational politics and political tactics; ability to effectively navigate formal and informal communication and decision-making channels. Knowledge of the policies and techniques to manage a set of related projects within a program; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control the set of projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve program objectives.

Knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations.

Interacting with others in a way that gives them confidence in one’s intentions and those of the organization.

Initiating and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the organization (e.g., customers, patients, peers, cross-functional partners, external vendors, and alliance partners) to advance business goals.

Keeping the organization’s mission, vision and values at the forefront of associate decision making and action

Encouraging others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities; facilitating the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace
