The Opportunity
The CEO position at ACG Chicago is a unique opportunity to deal with bright, engaging and high-performance executives committed to success and career growth in middle-market M&A and related fields. As a leader within the ACG Global community, ACG Chicago has a well-regarded national brand with an established membership with room for growth in its service and product offerings, as well as in its membership, both in type and numbers. Of particular interest at the current time is recruiting to membership new and diverse entrants in the M&A field and those financing growth who wish to maximize the impact of their commitment to networking and education.
The Position
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is charged with implementing the Strategic Growth Plan and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Chapter. On an on-going basis, the CEO and the Board President (the elected leader of the Chapter) consult on issues affecting the Chapter and jointly set agendas for Board meetings. The position supervises four full-time staff and is responsible for the organization’s $1-2 million annual budget.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Guide and assist the Board in carrying out its responsibilities, insuring at all times that ACG Chicago Board members are fully informed on the organization’s condition, operations and opportunities.
Strive to create an environment that fosters and encourages member volunteer participation and service in the Chapter’s committees and networks.
Align and focus each Committee’s work with the specific goals of the Chapter’s Strategic Plan and, whenever possible, attend all committee meetings either in person or on the phone.
Serve as the voice of the Chapter to the media, the public and other organizations.
Supervise and direct Chapter staff in day-to-day operations, including maintaining appropriate staffing levels and annual review protocols as well as ensuring the continuing development of staff capabilities.
Prepare drafts of all major policy statements that require approval of the Board, in particular financial management policy. Also, the CEO prepares all written reports to the Board, as well as presents and edits Board meeting minutes.
Serve as principal officer interacting with the Audit Committee.
Continue the Chapter’s membership development and retention activities, focusing on rising and diverse candidates.
Assume a specific role in the solicitation of high profile member prospects in support of the Strategic Plan.
Serve as ACG Chicago’s primary interface with ACG Global and as Chapter spokesperson in ACG Global deliberations, consulting with ACG Chicago Board President and Board on ACG Global issues that materially affect the Chapter.

EQUIREMENTS and PREFERENCES
Bachelor’s degree required. Direct or indirect experience in M&A and related fields highly desirable. A core understanding of and/or experience in the networking function and its venues for business and professional development is required. Experience in convention/meeting development, planning and execution or similar activity highly desired. Excellent consensus development and discussion facilitation skills are required, especially as these are called for in supporting the Board or a committee as it focuses on direction setting, program development and related activities. Success in business and sponsorship development or similar activity highly desired. Excellent oral and written communication skills required, both for internal member communications as well as for outward facing relations with the media, stakeholders and others. A working knowledge and use of social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and others). Leadership is a must, including the ability to work effectively with high energy, growth-oriented executives wishing to maximize their benefit from participation in ACG Chicago.
