Position Overview

Provide leadership and vision for learning for all students in the District. To collaboratively develop, oversee and manage day-to-day operations of educational programs and services for the District. Plans, develops, and assesses functions related to pupil services, professional development and school improvement efforts. Assists the superintendent in the administration of the district, as assigned. Responsibilities

-Provide leadership assistance in support of the Superintendent for the development, promotion and implementation of the District's priorities and objectives

-Reinforce with the staff the district vision, and provide support to staff as their roles evolve to better meet the needs of all students of all abilities in integrated environments

-Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of pupil services

-Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning (CAI) on the oversight of the professional development activities for the district

-Responsible for the identification and assessment of learner outcomes

-Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning (CAI) to lead the Department of Learning.

-Oversee and co-evaluate the work of the Directors of Learning and the Director of Technology

-Collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Learning (CAI), coordinates and monitors the school improvement process

-Serves as a resource to principals

-Maintain an awareness of trends, issues and research in curriculum, assessment, and instruction, and make recommendations for adjustments in the district's educational program

-Develop and monitor budget allocations

-Maintain effective coordination and articulation between district schools, the high school, private schools, and pupil services

-Apply for and write grant applications

-Participate in the selection of textbooks and provide guidance concerning textbook and other instructional material usage

-Direct district councils and committees as assigned

-Participate in strategic planning process and direct efforts as assigned

-Attend all Board of Education meetings or special committee meetings as requested

-Recommend to the Superintendent the necessary personnel to be employed and work collaboratively on human resource matters

-Support instructional programs

-Serve as a district liaison with agencies and community resources

-Oversee complaints and due process hearings related to pupil services and special education

-Supervise and evaluate staff, as assigned

-Complete other assignments and/or special projects as requested by the Superintendent


Qualifications - Experience and Education

-Master's degree in education

--Doctorate desired

-Successful experience as an administrator

-Deep knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in pupil services; and works collaboratively to support curriculum, assessment and instruction.

-Knowledge of federal and state funding, grant programs, regulations and laws

-Experience evaluating and supervising staff members

-Successful completion of ISBE PERA training preferred

-Successful experience in developing and implementing specially designed instruction Qualifications - Skill Set

-Excellent leadership skills

-Ability to research, collaborate, organize, develop and lead long-range planning

-Demonstrated ability to co-plan, lead, and assess professional development and school improvement efforts.

-Ability to communicate with all segments of the school and community
