MetLife Investment Management (MIM) is seeking a senior leader to join its real estate group as Managing Director, Client Solutions & Product Development. This executive will serve as the real estate product expert supporting MIM’s Institutional Client Group (ICG) global product distribution organization. He or she will lead the client and consultant interface function for MIM’s real estate asset management business, teaming closely with ICG and representing the full spectrum of real estate offerings, both debt and equity. Additionally, this leader will be responsible for spearheading the development and differentiation of new real estate product offerings. Drawing on market insights and client needs, the successful candidate will partner with MIM’s real estate research and portfolio management teams to develop and implement new investment products and strategies to grow both existing and new client relationships. The position will report to the Global Head of Real Estate, with a dotted line relationship with the Global Head of ICG.
MIM Real Estate currently manages approximately $25 billion gross AUM of direct investments nationally across office, apartment, industrial, retail, and hotel property types for internal (general account) and external institutional clients, with annual acquisitions volume of $2-$3 billion. In addition to direct investments, MIM Real Estate manages a real estate debt business with AUM of more than $50 billion, and annual investment activity of $10-$15 billion. The MIM Real Estate platform includes two open-ended funds (MetLife Core Property Fund and Commercial Mortgage Income Fund), and managed accounts with leading pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and insurance companies. In total, MIM Real Estate manages assets for more than 50 clients across its fund and managed accounts.
Product development and market insights
Identify new product and investment strategies, anticipating market opportunities and addressing investor needs and preferences
Team with PMs and other key participants in investigating, designing, and structuring, and implementing new strategies/products to enhance platform investment performance and build AUM for existing funds and managed accounts
Identify areas of opportunity to differentiate and position the funds and managed accounts favorably to drive superior performance and attract additional investor capital
Drawing on competitive analysis, market research, and investor input, advise MIM senior management on competitive strategy in the real estate space
Provide coaching and advice to key members of the MIM real estate team in the institutional client solicitation and management process
Global real estate distribution partner and subject matter expert
Lead investor interface and communications for the existing MIM real estate institutional client base to address issues and opportunities in a timely fashion, follow up on investor leads, and enhance client retention and growth of the funds and accounts
Partner with the Institutional Client Group (ICG) to help raise capital for real estate offerings, including the MetLife Core Property Fund, Commercial Mortgage Income Fund, and separately managed accounts
Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with the real estate consultant community; leverage consultant relationships to deepen and broaden MIM Real Estate’s investor and capital base and support a favorable perspective among consultants of MIM Real Estate’s team and capabilities
Support the cross-selling of the MIM platform across investment sectors, teaming with ICG partners and MIM sector specialists (including Logan Circle Partners platform) to generate investment capital for real estate strategies and potential cross-sector vehicles
Thought leadership & MIM Real Estate market representative
Maintain a high profile in the institutional real estate asset management landscape, including active participation in industry organizations and events
Provide a favorable face to the market, enhancing recognition of MIM Real Estate as a leading, innovative asset management platform
Represent MIM Real Estate and communicate MIM’s strategy and capabilities at industry conferences, publications and other media outlets

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
15 years institutional real estate investment experience, with relevant experience and successful track record at well-regarded asset management, consultant, or investment platforms
Strategic investment perspective; experience in executing core, core plus, value add, and development strategies with particular depth in real asset/ equity investments
Strong team building and organizational skills; established success in partnering with and/or leading diverse teams of both direct and indirect reports in a complex, matrixed environment
Well-established client (public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, foundations and endowments, high net worth) and consultant relationships; demonstrated ability to foster and grow client relationships
Demonstrated success in developing and launching new real estate investment product offerings and strategies, including contribution to successful capital raises
Global perspective and experience in working with off-shore investors as well as domestic investors ideal
Strong market reputation and credibility among the institutional real estate investment community; comfortable in a leadership role representing MetLife in the marketplace
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Undergraduate degree required; MBA preferred
