SUMMARY:
Provide leadership to the frontline fundraising and engagement functions of leadership gifts, annual giving and donor relations and he/she holds responsibility for the planning and execution of an aggressive cultivation and solicitation program in support of our institutional and divisional goals. He/she will manage these three critical programs under the direction of the Vice President for Advancement while hiring, mentoring and guiding professionals in their respective roles to advance their individual and programmatic responsibilities. The Executive Director of Development is a part of the Advancement senior leadership team and will work collaboratively with other senior colleagues in principal and planned gifts, alumni and alumnae relations, grants, communications and advancement services. The Executive Director works collaboratively with other members of the institution, Senior Staff, President, Board of Trustees alumni, alumnae and parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the Leadership Giving Staff and their respective goals and plans of work.
Manages the Annual Giving team which includes annual fund, parents fund, and the athletic fundraising programs.
Oversee the successful integration of donor relations more holistically into the functions of these externally focused programs.
Provides ongoing mentoring, professional development and leadership for the all under management.
Manages fundraising initiatives, ensures proper cultivation and solicitation strategies are in place and and provides organized and effective tools to promote success.
Holds primary responsibility for the development of a comprehensive leadership giving, annual giving and the execution of an effective donor relations program.
Fosters an environment of collaboration, team work and accountability.
Ensures all goals attained for annual visit, solicitation and fundraising goals as determined by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Creates and/or supports special events necessary to inform or cultivate leadership giving prospects.
Oversees all appropriate operational budgets and special project budgets and timelines.
Actively contributes to the maturation and support of the volunteer base in support of the Colleges' advancement function in collaboration with our alumni/ae, parents and career services programs.
Functions successfully in working with the Office of the President and Senior Staff, faculty, fellow staff members and Trustees.
Minimal travel required.
Assumes other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree is required and a minimum of five years of development experience with demonstrated accomplishment in annual giving and the acquisition of major gifts and the management of frontline fundraisers.
Experience in higher education is preferable.
Capability as a supervisor, mentor and team member is highly valued.
Campaign experience is preferred.
A high level of energy, ambition, and orientation to asking; integrity, straightforwardness and a commitment to celebrate the successes of others, and the ability to work purposely in an environment of multiple priorities are required characteristics of the Executive Director of Development.
Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are also required.
Must have a high level of organization in all aspects of professional work.
Must have a driver's license and willingness to travel.
OTHER INFORMATION:
This administrative position is full-time (12-month/37.5 hours per week) and benefits-eligible. Normal hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year with a possible shortened work week during the scheduled summer hours.
