The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care (DACOS/AC) is a leadership position that is responsible for all aspects of primary care delivery and supervision of staff. In conjunction with the Associate Chief of Staff, the DACOS/AC is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, implementing, controlling and refining a comprehensive patient management/clinical support program.

The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff must demonstrate leadership in interpreting and supporting the Medical Center's mission, vision and values while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Medical Center policies, federal, professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA such as Joint Commission. The DACOS/AC will report to the Associate Chief of Staff, Ambulatory Care.

Duties include but are not limited to:

The DACOS/AC primarily focuses on clinical operations.

Participates in top level policy design for Primary Care through collaboration with various disciplines and services

Ensures the development, implementation, and maintenance of Primary Care requirements in accordance with VHA and Medical Center policy. Directs medical care programs aligned under primary care to include occupational health, TVC, HPDP etc.The incumbent delegates authority and is responsible to meet medical center, VISN and VACO goals for all areas of responsibility.

Participates in affiliate training, teaching students and residents

Provides services with technical counsel as necessary, promoting the development of professional staff within the service.

Enforcement and adherence to policies, directives and guidelines of VHA and the facility as well as certifying or accrediting organizations

Participates in top level decisions that impact functional areas under his/her oversight through collaborations with Executive leadership

Participates in recruitment, retention, budget development and resource management, quality improvement, committees, meetings and other assignments

Facilitates communication along the service line and is the primary conduit of information to colleagues, subordinates and service line leadership

Communicates and interacts appropriately and courteously with internal and external stakeholders

Forward thinking and innovative, looking beyond day to day operations via proactive and strategic planning

Board certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine and experience with Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT) is highly preferred

Will be expected to provide direct patient care to a PACT panel commensurate with the administrative demands of the position

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00am-4:30pm)

Position requires work outside of regular duty hours. NOTE: Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours.

Basic Requirements:

-Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.

-Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

-Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

-Completion of a residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.

-Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2, Physician Qualification Standard.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires: light to moderate lifting (15 - 44 lbs); light carrying (15 lbs and under); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); kneeling (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13 to 16; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; mental stability; working closely with others; and working alone.
