Our mission is to promote growth in spirit, mind and body through programs and services that strengthen community for all people in Evanston. The McGaw YMCA has a long history of supporting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  While McGaw has all of the features of traditional YMCAs (gym, exercise and aquatic facilities), it has a number of facilities that make it unique among its counterparts nationwide. These include a men’s residence, a NAEYC-accredited children’s center, and a residential camp in Michigan that welcomes more than 1,800 youth every summer.    Among its many offerings for people of all ages, McGaw is a respected provider of programs for all youth in the community. These programs promote academic readiness and success through specialized instruction, enrichment activities, tutoring and mentoring. They include Head Start, Y-Readers, Y-Achievers and MetaMedia, a digital media program and maker space for middle school youth.    Key Challenges McGaw’s current financial environment driven by increasing community needs, heightened external competition for services, increased compliance and certification requirements and externally mandated/ imposed costs will create a challenging environment for the foreseeable future. Key Accountabilities Success in this role will be determined by the overall health and well-being of the association. Performance indicators include the following: financial sustainability, fund raising results, overall membership (new members and member retention), community engagement and staff morale.  Key Roles and Responsibilities  The President/CEO will:     Oversee the development and implementation of a myriad of high-quality, high-impact programs and services that benefit and reflect the rich diversity of the Evanston community.       Supervise and work closely with the management team in executing the vision and priorities of the association. This team includes the Chief Programs & Operations Officer, Chief Administrator & Financial Officer, Chief Human Capital Development Officer and the Vice President of Philanthropy & Leadership Gifts. Staff support is provided by the President/CEO’s Executive Assistant.     Be responsible for delivering multi-year financial results to support high quality programs, addressing ongoing infrastructure and capital needs and ensuring that strategic initiatives offered on a no-cost basis or not fully funded by membership fees can be sustained without any erosion of McGaw’s financial capability.      Be actively involved in fundraising activities in conjunction with the association’s advancement team, which oversees annual and capital campaigns, corporate and foundation grants, major gift donors and sponsorships.     Facilitate deep and effective collaborations and working relationships throughout the community – bringing new opportunities and stakeholders to the association and providing strong advocacy and leadership throughout the Evanston community.    Nurture an effective and inclusive culture throughout the association where accountability, transparency, access, equity and work family balance are valued and modeled every day.    Fully engage the skills and talents of the Board of Directors in order to ensure a highly invested and informed governing body committed to the mission and goals of the McGaw YMCA.    Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred Minimum of five years of experience in a senior leadership role with direct supervision In-depth knowledge and experience in leading diverse organizations and a deep, abiding commitment to diversity, inclusion, access and equity Solid business management and financial skills with demonstrated record of meeting and/or exceeding multi-year financial targets Strong track record of results in meeting or exceeding multi-year fund-raising goals Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills Demonstrated experience working with Boards, teams and multiple constituencies YMCA Organizational Leader Certification is required. Candidates not already in possession of this certification will have up to two year to obtain via Y-USA The ideal candidate will be an effective listener and effective collaborator, display a commitment to openness and transparency, possess the ability to make tough decisions to move the association forward and consistently model the values of the McGaw YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
