CHIEF NURSING INFORMATICS OFFICER
Department: CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICE
Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, No Weekends
The Director of Clinical Informatics reports to the Sr Vice President Clinical Transformation
& Chief Nursing Officer and is responsible leveraging technology to drive clinical transformation. This includes leading in the strategy, development and implementation of Informatics to support nursing, nursing practice and clinical applications, collaborating with clinical leaders on the clinical and administrative decision-making process. This position develops clinical systems and optimizes the use of existing clinical systems, for nurses, physicians, and other multidisciplinary care providers, by attending to their information management needs. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes a multidisciplinary team concept and reflects the BSHSI mission and philosophy.
Serves as the principal informatics advisor to the Chief Nursing Officer. Works Collaboratively with the Medical Informatics Officers.
Scope and Complexity
Information normally available when solving problems and making decisions in this position can be incomplete and additional information is often difficult to find; determining and gathering appropriate information may require significant research. The method of analysis normally required to solve problems in this position is to examine and analyze information in accordance with generally defined professional principles and practices. Typically, decisions made in this position could positively or negatively affect the entire hospital. Work is guided by MIHS’s policies, established strategies and plans; normally subject to senior management guidance and periodic review of goal achievement in relation to agreed upon strategies. This position analyzes budgetary data, verifies figures, and develops budget proposals; recommends allocation of budgetary funds.
Master Degree in nursing -information technology, nursing, healthcare administration or other related
field; or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that will result in the
required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work.
PhD/DNP degree in Nursing or related healthcare field is preferred
Requires previous experience as a Director of Nursing Informatics; preferably at a system level. A minimum of
five (5) years of clinical informatics experience, with a focus on technical and clinical components of clinical
information systems; and must have at least two (2) of those years functioning in a management capacity.
Must have experience with the implementation of electronic nursing documentation in the inpatient AND
outpatient arena. EPIC experience preferred.
Current licensure as a RN.
A certification in nursing informatics or a related certification is preferred.
