As assigned, leads a small group of high caliber technical personnel on important special studies or a unique segment of a client project. Represents Bechtel in discussions with or presentations to client management or senior technical personnel, and in so doing may affect Bechtel\u2019s image or objectives. Is recognized and respected within the industry and among Bechtel clients for expertise in the specialized field and has a national\/international reputation. JOB DIMENSIONS: A. Supervision Received Receives administrative supervision from the global business unit managers, Manager of Engineering, or other group\/department manager with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits. B. Supervision Exercised Provides functional guidance to engineers, scientists or technicians; however, is not typically responsible for staff planning or salary administration. C. Contacts Maintains continuing contact with senior management, other Bechtel business line managers, client technical decision-makers, client representatives, suppliers, regulatory authorities, educational institutions and professional societies as required to obtain and exchange information pertinent to assignments. Maintains contact with outside consultants. Persuasion and diplomacy is required. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Serves as consultant to global business units, project and specialty engineering or scientific groups providing advice and counsel on special and unique assignments, including technology assessments, selections & assignments Conducts or leads special studies on economic feasibility and on complex new technologies, methods and materials Reviews engineering or scientific concepts, drawings, calculations and specifications. Directs engineering in developing water balance diagrams and water balance calculations. Participates directly in new business efforts involving specialized and unique engineering or scientific applications. Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services and participates in proposal preparation and presentation. Provides substantive guidance and direction to specialty scientific or engineering personnel in the development of advanced design criteria and specifications. Screens and recommends selection of special outside consultants; coordinates their activities and monitors their performance. Conducts or leads special studies on economic feasibility and on complex new technologies, methods and materials. Interprets new or special governmental regulations, engineering codes, standards, criteria and performance data. Develops and coordinates special technical educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel. Takes an active and visible role, representing Bechtel at professional conferences and on committees. Actively investigates, evaluates and contributes to technological\/scientific advances in the specialized field, and keeps management informed on these important new advances. Provides professional guidance to senior management and senior client technical\/scientific personnel. Develops and coordinates special technical educational and training programs for Bechtel personnel; mentor to senior engineers, in order to create a pipeline of desalination and water treatment specialists Substantive experience of but not limited to: water chemistry, coagulation, media filtration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, electro deionization, disinfection, ion exchange for softening and demineralization, thermal desalination and condensate polishing. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Substantial and extraordinary technical knowledge in a specialized field of science or engineering in the treated water market segment, evidenced by national or worldwide recognition. Expertise in nuclear water treatment processes and technologies. This includes experience and knowledge in removal of radionuclides in water and groundwater treatment facilities and water chemistry associated with radioactive water treatment. Knowledge of scientific or engineering systems, calculations, applications and construction methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application of computers. Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Thorough knowledge of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the engineering or scientific discipline. Skill in oral and written communications. The above is normally acquired through: A recognized degree in engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college, OR A professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized licensing board, OR Specialized courses in engineering, or an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, AND Progressive work experience, preferably in radioactive water treatment, applied science, specialty engineering but may be in other relevant types of engineering\/science including systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or engineering\/construction firms, AND Participation in the activities and proceedings of prestigious academic and professional societies and recognized national boards and bodies.
