The VP of Agile Transformation will influence, guide and lead the business agility transformation for UHC. The leader will be able to harmonize with UHC and Optum goals and execute on a multi-year plan with minimal supervision and/or executive intervention. This person will provide leadership, stability, and guidance across UHC teams as we transition to a Product model and Product Manager/Owner model from the current waterfall/hybrid development methodologies to an emergent system of work using Agile principles. This person will work closely with a large and diverse team including the UHC CIOs, the Business Agility Leadership Council, the VP and Director of Transformation at Optum, all levels of management, a team of Agile coaches, cross-functional software development teams, product owners, and program management, to ensure there is a successful transition to these new methods and standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
Counsel/ influence senior leaders to embrace Agile principles, methods and leadership behaviors to gain and sustain a commitment to cultural change
Work with CIOs, Business Agility Leadership Council, and the Culture Office to institute Agile mindset in our work culture
Ensures that goals, scope, and enterprise wide Agile transformation outcomes are understood by everyone within UHC
Work with business leaders to define and implement UHC Product model and supporting Product Managers/Owners
Provide career development, performance management, and compensation management for direct reports
Develop the overall execution plan in partnership with Optum Direct of Agile Transformation for secure sustained funding as needed
Ensure comprehensive Organization Change Enablement program is in place, involving leaders and followers at all levels of the organization
Ensures the needs for local variation are balanced against enterprise consistency
Drive continuous process improvement opportunities through analysis of processes, metrics, and, performance results, translating business goals into operational excellence opportunities and targets
Prepare and deliver executive level readouts, including regular retrospectives and go forward actions
Provide thought leadership and stewardship to the Business Agility and Change Management methodology; keeping up to date on current practices
Embody the expected behaviors and approach to work needed from the various project functions in the new Agile environment
Create and lead workshops and other knowledge-sharing activities imparting knowledge and drawing on their own Agile expertise and experiences
Use Creative and innovative solutions to remove team obstacles
Required Qualifications:
15 years of progressive technology leadership experiences
Demonstrated success creating business enabling 3 year technology roadmaps
Prior people management responsibilities with senior level team members as direct reports
Leadership style that fosters accountability, transparent communication and innovation
Ability to travel to the various UHG locations up to 20% of the time.
Experience architecting scalable technology solutions that adjust to cyclical business patterns
Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise
Demonstrated success in leveraging technology to meet business objectives
History of engaging with CEO and COO customers and external clients
Demonstrated track record of effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive change agendas
Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective
Demonstrated history of executing with excellence: setting purposeful goals and achieving them through intelligent actions, which balancing competing priorities without losing momentum behind execution
Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment
Demonstrated collaboration, influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to sell ideas to others outside of your direct team members
