Dear Candidate, happy New Year and thank you for reading this job posting.
At Team JMC, we are seeking a new team member who is talented, energetic, motivated and process oriented. You must have exceptional project management
skills, be a superb communicator
(written and oral) and relish the environment of a well-capitalized start-up.
This job is not about answering phones or greeting visitors. You need to think and act like a Chief of Staff
By way of introduction, my name is Michael Cassidy. I was the founder and former CEO of an internet advertising company called Undertone. Undertone had a number of successes, but one I am most proud of is being recognized numerous times by industry publications and by our own employees as a “ Best Place to Work
”. Following the sale of my business in 2015, I took a break to spend time with family and friends while pondering what was next. That ‘next’ is Team JMC, which I launched with my partner, Stephen Wall. Before Stephen and I met, he was an economist, strategy consultant, attended business school and started an innovative running app. Today, we are a three person team (plus interns) working out of a cool loft in New Rochelle. We chose this location because work/life balance
is a priority, and our location is an example of that.
The work we do, it is interesting, fast paced and meaningful
. Simply put, our goal is to acquire, own and then help grow a portfolio of small businesses. For example, an owner of an event production company wants to retire, but needs to find a buyer that they can trust to ensure employees and customers are taken care of. Or an entrepreneur has built an exciting recruiting company but need capital and expertise to grow. We can help them both. We created our firm because we believe these small companies need and deserve to have the same access to services, financial resources and talent that larger firms have. When successful, this benefits everyone involved, from employees, to customers and to shareholders – a meaningful outcome for all.
To make these investments, we spend time meeting with business owners and their advisors (investment bankers, brokers, attorneys, and accountants). We talk to them about our business experiences and the ways in which we can be a trusted and helpful partner. In a relatively short amount of time we have established a differentiated and positive reputation
in the market, but believe we are barely scratching the surface.
As you can imagine, the process of buying a business is complex with many moving parts. Ongoing communication with owners and advisors is required, research and analysis
to vet the business is essential, and soliciting expertise from outside consultants (legal, financial) is often needed.
The person we hire must be intelligent, collaborative, creative, dedicated, proactive, helpful, self-aware, and without ego. Your responsibilities will vary from planning our weekly meeting, managing our deal pipeline, leading our internship program, executing our marketing strategy and being involved in supporting the companies we acquire,
as just a few examples. For anyone that has worked in a startup or small business before knows, you'll be part of the team making decisions and doing the work. Our organization is flat and we all do what is needed without regard for title. No specific job description does this role justice, which is one of the perks!
If this sound interesting, please apply and tell us why you did. We are excited to meet our new team member.
