Chief Financial Officer
Insero & Co. CPAs Recruiting Services division is currently recruiting for a CFO (Direct Hire) position for a non-profit (client of the firm) located in Rochester, NY. Amazing opportunity to work for a thriving not-for-profit community development and human services organization supporting families and communities in seven states and has been around for over 40 years. Seeking a senior financial executive who is a strategic thinker, results orientated and a change agent.
Summary Purpose for the Position:
The CFO is a key member of the executive team and has the primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial activity of the organization. The CFO will have direct responsibility for overseeing accounting, finance, budgeting, cash management; forecasting and strategic planning; investor relationships and partnership compliance; reporting to partners, lenders, grantors and government agencies; developing and monitoring internal procedures and controls; overseeing insurance coverages, and; leading a 12 person finance department.
Position Responsibilities:
Develop and oversee systems to ensure accurate, complete and timely financial recordkeeping and reporting to state and federal funders, partnerships and joint ventures.
Work with the President & CEO and executive staff to analyze and model potential new growth opportunities, including overseeing the restructuring of the corporate structure, the surplus distribution process, the creation of workout plans for properties with operating losses, and the development of LLC dissolution strategies.
Oversee the development of the annual corporate budget.
Oversee the preparation and review of monthly P&L statements and functional revenue and expense reports for each division/program and meeting with executive staff members to review and resolve items of concern.
Oversee consolidated corporate audit, individual audits, 990s and other tax filings. Oversee maintenance of 501(c)(3) group exemption and EINs.
Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
Acquire a complete and comprehensive knowledge of all regulations affecting fiscal matters in regards to funding of the corporation and inform the executive team and senior program directors of relevant regulations affecting the fiscal management and operation of individual grants. Over 200 grants and cost centers.
Work with real estate development and property management senior staff to establish and implement policies regarding capital assets and debt management.
Provide continuous analysis of short- and long-term strategic financial objectives and provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance.
Assist divisions with respect to maintaining an effective insurance program.
Work with the Senior Vice President of Human Resources to research, establish and monitor a comprehensive employee fringe benefit program.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Certification, Knowledge, Skill):
Minimum of a BS in accounting; a CPA and/or MBA preferred
Must have 10 years experience working in a senior financial management role (Controller/CFO) in the non-profit arena along with partnering with executive staff.
Must have experience with non-profit accounting and multi-fund accounting
Experience with housing tax credits, USDA RD programs, HUD programs, and other various affordable housing financing programs is a plus.
Must have experience the fiscal management of federal and state grant programs
Proven track record of leading, coaching and developing an accounting team.
Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work in dynamic and diverse team environment.
Results orientated, ability to embrace and lead change, think strategically, multi-tasking, strong sense of urgency and excellent problem solver skills are required.
Solid computer skills, including knowledge of Yardi, MS Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
Experience with Abila/MIP (formerly Sage Fund Accounting software product) preferred.
